A specialist teacher for supporting pupils for whom English is an Additional Language is employed by Clifford Road School for 2.5 days weekly. In addition, a Bengali Bilingual Assistant works at the school for 1.5 days.
This additional staff support the pupils in a variety of ways according to their individual needs. The pupils may be taught individually, in a small group or in the classroom with the class teacher. A weekly homework Club is also available to support these pupils.
Interpreters are employed by the school for Parent Teacher Consultation Meetings and when the need arises throughout the year.
In addition to supporting pupils with English the school encourages pupils to continue to use their Home Language and to celebrate their own culture with the rest of the school.
