Design Technology in EYFS
At our school, Design and Technology begins with curiosity, imagination and hands-on exploration. Through a wide range of practical experiences, children are encouraged to design, build, create and solve problems, developing the confidence to turn their ideas into reality.
In our Early Years environment, children explore a variety of materials, tools and construction resources, learning how things work and discovering different ways to make and improve their creations. Whether building a bridge for a story character, constructing a model from recycled materials, designing a vehicle or preparing simple foods, children are given opportunities to think creatively, make decisions and evaluate their work.
Design and Technology in EYFS supports the development of fine motor skills, communication, resilience and critical thinking. Children learn to plan, test, adapt and persevere when challenges arise, helping them become independent and resourceful learners.
Through purposeful play and real-life contexts, we nurture young designers, engineers and problem-solvers, laying strong foundations for future learning in Design and Technology and across the wider curriculum.
