Personal Development/SMCS

Personal, Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development

Personal, Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development is woven throughout all areas of our curriculum and school life. Through subjects such as RE and PSHE, along with our school values, assemblies, trips and wider opportunities, we support children in developing their sense of self, understanding right and wrong, building positive relationships, and appreciating different cultures. This helps our pupils grow into confident, respectful and active members of their community.

Seasonal Walks to Alexandra Park to explore nature

Our Reception children visit Alexandra Park each season to explore the natural environment and observe how it changes throughout the year. These regular visits provide a hands-on opportunity to notice seasonal differences, from blossoming flowers in spring to colourful leaves in autumn. The experiences encourage curiosity, discussion and a love of the outdoors, helping children develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Celebrating Success in our School

We celebrate success in a meaningful and motivating way across the school. Children are recognised for their achievements through our reward system, where Bronze stickers are awarded by teachers, Silver by Phase Leaders, and Gold by the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher for exceptional effort and accomplishment. Each week, we also celebrate pupils’ successes with our Green Certificates, highlighting positive attitudes, hard work and progress. These celebrations help to build confidence, encourage a sense of pride, and reinforce our positive learning culture.

Reception and Y6 Buddies

Our Reception and Year 6 buddy system is a valued part of school life. At the beginning of the year, children are paired together and meet regularly to take part in shared activities, projects and playtimes. This provides a wonderful opportunity for Reception children to build strong, supportive relationships and feel confident as they settle into school. At the same time, our Year 6 pupils develop important skills in responsibility and leadership as they learn how to support and guide younger learners. The buddy system plays a key role in transition and is truly loved by all.
