Reading

This term we will focus on three texts:

  • The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
  • Peter Pan
  • Jabberwocky

We will:

continue to use our reading prosody skills when reading aloud in class

develop our knowledge and understanding of the texts we read and use our skills of inference to understand characters' feelings, thoughts and motives from their actions, justifying this with evidence from the text

predict what might happen from details stated and implied

identify themes and conventions in a wide range of books

ask questions to improve our understanding of the text

identify main ideas and summarise these

participate in discussions about books read to them and read for themselves

increase familiarity with the events, themes and characters of the book

use drama techniques to support and develop our understanding

This term our writing focuses will be:

  • Drama - Into the tomb
  • Letter writing - revision from Year 3
  • Instructional Writing
  • Narrative
  • Instructional writing as a speech
